1. Cookies We Use
Pryde uses two essential cookies only:
- Authentication Token — Stores your login session. Set as HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite to prevent theft. Required to stay logged in.
- XSRF-TOKEN — A CSRF protection token included with requests to prevent cross-site request forgery attacks. Required for security.
We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.
2. localStorage (Similar Technologies)
In addition to cookies, Pryde uses your browser's localStorage to store preferences locally on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is never sent to our servers — it stays entirely in your browser.
localStorage items we store:
- Dark mode / Galaxy mode preference — Remembers your visual theme choice
- UI dismissal states — Remembers prompts or banners you have dismissed (e.g. "Find your people" onboarding)
- Anonymous analytics session ID — A random ID (no link to your account) used for counting unique public page visits. Expires after 24 hours.
You can clear localStorage at any time via your browser's developer tools or privacy settings. This will reset your theme preference and re-show dismissed prompts.
3. Why We Use These Technologies
- Keep you logged in — Maintain your session across pages
- Protect your account — Prevent CSRF attacks
- Remember preferences — Save your visual settings (localStorage only, never sent to us)
All cookies are essential for the platform to function. localStorage items are functional preferences stored locally.
4. Managing Cookies & localStorage
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from logging in to Pryde Social, as our session and CSRF cookies are essential for the platform to function.
To clear localStorage data, use your browser's developer tools (F12 → Application → Local Storage → prydeapp.com → Clear).
Browser Cookie Settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
5. GDPR & ePrivacy Compliance
Under GDPR, cookies that are strictly necessary for a service the user has requested do not require consent (ePrivacy Directive Article 5(3); GDPR Article 6(1)(b) — contract performance).
Both cookies Pryde uses (authentication token and XSRF-TOKEN) fall squarely into this category.No cookie consent banner is legally required.
localStorage is not regulated by the ePrivacy Directive in the same way as cookies, but we disclose its use here in the interest of full transparency.
